The Institute of Reading Development is excited to announce openings for summer reading teachers in Jackson for our transformative reading programs catering to all age groups. Our core mission is to foster a lifelong passion for reading among students by merging skill-building with the joy of engaging with exceptional literature. Through our programs, students enhance their reading fluency and comprehension, setting the foundation for academic and personal growth.

This role offers a unique blend of challenge and fulfillment, supported by a nurturing team. While teaching experience is an asset, it is not a prerequisite for this role. We do not require teaching certification, making this an excellent chance for recent or soon-to-be college graduates, graduate students, current educators, or anyone interested in pivoting to a career in education.

What We Offer Our Teachers:

  • The chance to teach in both online and face-to-face settings.
  • A weekly salary range of $600-$700.
  • Extensive paid training before the program starts, plus continuous support throughout.
  • The opportunity to gain more than 200 hours of teaching experience, leading classes for a diverse age group, from preschoolers to adults.

Commitment and Schedule:

  • A 10-week teaching commitment.
  • A 37-40 hour work week.
  • A schedule that includes teaching five days a week, encompassing weekends.
  • An entry-level role with prospects for ongoing opportunities at the Institute beyond the summer.

Training Programs:

  • A comprehensive 3-week, full-time training program prior to the start of teaching.
  • An alternative part-time, independent study training program for professional teachers or applicants with scheduling conflicts.

Ideal Candidates:

  • Exhibit strong reading skills and a personal enjoyment of fiction.
  • Are dedicated, industrious individuals with excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Are tech-savvy, comfortable with and confident in using educational technology.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Approach teaching with energy, patience, and a supportive demeanor towards students and parents.
